‍Judges Meeting

All black belts, 16 and older, are asked to attend the judges meeting at 9:30. This will be a brief meeting to discuss the judging criteria, introduce everybody, and answer any questions. Ring assignments will be announced at this meeting.

‍Opening Ceremony

At 9;45 we will have an opening ceremony where the head instructor and judges will line up on the far side of the competition area. Students will then line up single file in front of the black belts and we'll bow in. Then there will be a welcoming message and an overview of the competition. Announcements and presentations, including the Golden Eagle Award will be made. Then the competition will begin.

‍Grand Champions

This year we are awarding two Grand Champions. One for the Black Belts and on for the Under Black Belts (new for 2023). We appreciate the effort that every competitor puts in to prepare for the Challenge. Every competitor is eligible to be a Grand Champion. Medal round winners compete to become Champions and then the Champions compete to be the Grand Champion.

Who's going to be the C=Grand Champion and who's going to be the first Under Black Belt Grand Champion?

‍Parking

The Galway Central Schools are on one campus. Parking is available at either entrance on Sacandaga Rd (Rte 147). The High School gym is located between the two lots. There will be a sign at each lot to direct people to the entrance between the gym and auditorium, which is facing the road.

‍The Golden Eagle Challenge is an event in the 518 Martial Arts circuit. Members competing in the Challenge earn points in the medal and champioship rounds. These points are valuable toward becoming a 518 Martial Arts Champion. The 2023 518 Martial Arts Champions will be announced in January 2024.

The Challenge is a unique event not only because it is a katas/forms only event, but it challenges the competitor to perform multiple times and for some, to perform multiple katas/forms. It pushes the competitor to give their best each time.
